The Best Thing I’ve Read So Far This Year

3 Minutes On Rewriting Who You Are

August 02, 2026

“Change is not the opposite of commitment. It is, in most cases, the fullest expression of it.”

\- Mark Fleming

I studied martial arts throughout my teenage years. I say studied, because while I trained in Tae Kwon Do, I was obsessed with learning about different styles and philosophies.

I trained with practitioners from different styles of karate and kung fu, I devoured Bruce Lee’s Tao of Jeet Kune Do, I travelled to different tournaments to test myself.

The same holds true for my mindset now - I’m dedicated to my craft and so I invest time and energy in expanding my knowledge, seeking out alternative perspectives and challenging myself to constantly evolve.

Back in May I discovered an article by Mark Fleming that reframed the sunk cost fallacy as an exploration of who you really are. It stayed with me. Like all the best writing, it articulated my thoughts in a way I wished I’d been able to capture myself.

I shared it as a recommended read in a previous edition, but I’ve found myself returning to it time and time again in recent weeks.

It’s a powerful, provocative read about your identity, your agency and your power to write a new story.

And that’s why I’m exercising my right to blow up my standard format this week, as I think the greatest gift I can give you is to share the best article I’ve read so far this year.

Go well.
